Why Power Shift and Why Now?

The youth of this country have been working hard for change. We've read the writing on the wall and will not let our leaders fail us on addressing global warming. And what have we already done about it? A hell of a lot.

Initiatives like the Campus Climate Challenge, led by over 30 youth organizations banding together to get colleges and universities to commit to going green on campus. Over 300 schools and counting have done just that as a result of their work. In one week alone, youth across the country organized 600 events in 49 states. These young people and the thousands of others like them at work everywhere, with their energy and their vision, have already done so much to change our energy policies in this country. That is leadership. That is a MOVEMENT. But that is not enough.

It's simply a measure of the scale of the challenge we are facing. And those who've been most active working for change know that, which is why we need Power Shift. Ask yourself, what would it look like to bring together in one place all that activism, all the outrage but more importantly the belief that we can and need to more. What could you DO with a force like that? What COULDN'T you do?

You could change the future. You could change the way a nation thinks about its relationship to the environment. You DEFINITELY could influence a presidential election. You can. We will.
