9:30 - 11:30am -- Hearing with Select Committee on Global Warming & Energy Independence
The Select Committee on Energy Independence & Global Warming will hold a hearing on Monday, November 5, at 9:30am. The hearing is entitled, “Youth Leadership for Clean Energy and a Healthy Climate.” This hearing will be comprised of youth leaders who will testify on the impacts of climate change on their communities and the solutions necessary to put us on the path toward a clean and just energy future.
10:00am - 5:00pm -- Youth Lobby Meetings with Hundreds of Senate & House Offices
Youth representing all 50 states and over 300 congressional districts will meet with Senators, Representatives and their Staff in hundreds of offices to lobby them on bold and comprehensive solutions to the climate crisis. This will be the largest single grassroots engagement with Congress yet on global warming and will leave a lasting impact for change in this country to a healthier and more secure future.
12:00 - 1:00pm -- Rally on the U.S. Capitol West Lawn
Join us for a rally on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol (just east of First Street NW between Constitution and Independence Avenues). We'll have thousands of youth, a series of inspiring speakers and climate champions, and more energy than you've ever seen before in one place! Bring everyone you know!
Now that you've registered for the conference, get set to make your voices heard in the halls of power: on Monday, November 5, 2007, we will converge by the thousands on Capitol Hill to lobby our elected representatives on bold and comprehensive climate change legislation to solve the climate crisis and put America back on the path to a clean and just energy future.
This will be the largest-ever day of lobbying on climate change, led by the leaders of our generation – YOU! We will reach all offices of the Senate and House of Representatives to deliver an action-oriented, concrete proposal to move our country forward, based on the comprehensive priorities of the 1Sky Campaign:
Create 5 million green jobs conserving 20% of our energy by 2015
Freeze carbon pollution levels now and cut at least 30% by 2020
Enact an immediate moratorium on new coal-fired power plants
